Seniors!! We Need Your Photos!

Every year at May Awards Night we recognize the graduating seniors for their accomplishments over the past four years.  Part of this is our slide show showcasing our seniors with then and now photos (just like the then and not-so-much-now-as-14-years-ago photos I have up top).  So, Seniors, we need your help!  If you haven’t already, please send your Advisor a picture of yourself from when you were a baby (or at least noticeably younger than you are now) and a picture of you from this year.  Ideally these pictures will just be of you, although if we have to crop you out or have another person in the photo it isn’t the end of the world.

Remember, Awards Night is May 6!

Senior April Checklist

Free College? Tell Me More!

You probably have heard a lot about reducing student loan debt and even free college from politicians these days, but there is a new pilot program from MnSCU that is more than just talk.  The MnSCU Two-Year Occupational Grant Pilot Program offers eligible students funding to cover any remaining tuition and fees after applying the awarded Federal Pell Grants and MN State Grants.  This grant can be used for up to 72 credits for qualifying certificate, diploma, AS or AAS programs.  There isn’t an application process other than completing the FAFSA and enrolling for Fall 2016 in one of your colleges qualifying programs.Read More »

College Knowledge Month

College Knowledge Month (aka October) has arrived and for seniors that means one thing…it’s officially application season!  Although December 1 is usually the standard for when to have all your college applications completed there is no time like the present to get started.  Here’s two good reasons why:

  1. You are less likely to make mistakes if you take your time and avoid procrastination
  2. Many colleges and universities in Minnesota waive their application fee for part or all of the month.  That’s basically free money.

To save you the work of tracking down which schools are waiving their application fee I’ve compiled them here:Read More »

Junior & Senior To-Do’s: The ACT

Seniors and juniors…ACT season is upon us!  Registration deadlines can easily sneak up on students.  Stay ahead by marking your calendars now with important 2015-16 ACT dates.

Before registering online, be sure to have an ACT waiver code on hand.  This will cover the entire cost of your test.  (An extra $56 in your pocket!)  All Upward Bound students have access to two waivers.  You can request a waiver code by emailing your advisor or by asking for one at tutoring.
