Congrats everyone for finishing your first trimester of the school year. 🙂
At the end of each trimester, each advisor will be choosing a student who they feel has really stood out to them. This can vary from a student’s commitment to the program to how well a student is doing in their classes.
Congratulations to all the students who were selected by their advisor as Student of the Trimester!
Osseo Senior High
Advisor: Ashley Allen
Gao is a hard worker and quiet leader. She approaches tutoring sessions with a productive mindset, taking responsibility for her learning. Even when her homework is done, Gao finds other ways to expand her mind, such as reading for fun. What stands out most about Gao is the way she encourages her friends to push themselves as well. When she notices a friend giving up on a tough assignment, Gao is ready with motivating words. She believes in her friends and it shows. Thank you, Gao, for the academic excellence, persistence, and friendship you bring to our program!

Jesus is a hard worker with such an outgoing and friendly personality. He always participates, rather it is coming to tutoring or going to Saturday events. Also, being a new advisor, Jesus has had no problems approaching me with questions that he has as well as helping me with any questions I may have had. I have seen him help other students whether it is answering a question about college applications or helping a student with a class or assignment. Also, Jesus always come to tutoring and Saturday session with such a positive attitude. Thank you Jesus for being an awesome leader participating in everything and thank you for not being afraid to step up to help another student.

Mary has had great attendance and has set challenging, but realistic, goals for her GPA. In addition, Mary has shown great leadership both in Upward Bound and in her community. Mary gets excited and makes it a priority to attend Saturday Sessions and always has a great attitude when participating in our events.
Anoka High School
Advisor: Doug Comes
Kinsi has really grown into an outstanding member of Upward Bound in her second year. She makes everyone at tutoring feel welcome and helps foster a strong sense of community. Even while being involved in Debate for AHS, Kinsi consistently meets her Advisor’s expectations for Tutoring attendance. When she can’t make it, she lets Doug know in advance. Kinsi has also made great strides toward improving her grades, asking for help from Doug and Anoka’s tutor extraordinaire, Dennis. Her efforts have been paying off, too. Awesome job, Kinsi!
